All Who Enter

Your entryway…
It is the first impression guests will have of your home and, sometimes, it’s the only space they’ll see. Entryways are literally the hub of your home and, as such, they deserve to be both beautiful and functional. Whether your entry is a formal foyer or a basic mudroom, it will set the tone and help define the identity of your home so thoughtful selections are important. While there are no hard and fast rules to entryway décor, there are a few elements will lend themselves to the form and function of your space in equal measure.

Necessary Objects

Console Table and a Complimentary Lamp - A gorgeous console table provides the perfect palette to bring your design scheme to life. Choose this piece carefully as it sets the mood and creates proportion for all of the other elements in the space. Highlight the console’s beauty with a gorgeous table lamp. After all, the soft glow of lamp light is both cozy and welcoming.

Pro Tip: For a more bespoke look, switch out the lamp standard shade for a custom fabric shade by FERMOIE. Available in-store now at A. HOME.

A Thoughtfully Proportioned Rug -  Size matters. Make sure the rug you choose is in proportion to the size of the entryway. A small rug in a giant entryway will look minuscule and out of place. A large rug in a space that is barely big enough to hold it, will look awkward and thoughtless.

Well-Styled Accessories - A console table anchors your entry space and allows for the display other items. What you place on it, around it, and under it is where the magic happens. Think balance and symmetry, but make it feel organic. Stacked coffee table books make ideal pedestals for decorative bowls, sculptural pieces, and even some greenery. Vary the height of your decorative items to keep the eye moving. If you have space beneath the table, tie in a couple of always-chic Chinoiserie jars, a perennial A. HOME fave.

A Striking Mirror/Dazzling Wall Art - A mirror by the front door is not just for checking your make-up on your way out. It can also help make the space feel bigger and brighter, which is especially helpful if your entrance is far from natural light. In terms of wall art, opt for something that makes an impact. Large-scale and oversize art always sets a chic tone. Think textured and colorful, but most importantly, make it meaningful. Art is a place for expression through content. Choose art that speaks to your soul, not simply something that coordinates with your color scheme.

An Umbrella Stand - It’s going to rain. It’s just a fact of life. A well-coordinated stand allows for a convenient way to store soggy umbrellas so you don’t have to bring the outdoors in. Get one. You’ll thank us later.

A Statement Light - Don’t skimp on your lighting. Select a fixture that makes a statement and defines the area. Consider adding a bold, glamorous look to your entryway with a chandelier. They come in a variety of styles and can be a show-stopping way of letting guests know that they have arrived.

As with rugs, proportion is key when it comes to selecting light fixtures. Be sure to take taller guests and family members into account when determining hanging height.

Seating - A simple way to make guests feel at home is to have a seat positioned prominently in your entryway. Benches, chairs, and ottomans alike provide a practical opportunity to sit down while putting on or taking off shoes. Entry seating can also be easily accessorized with throw pillows and plants that showcase your personal style as a preview of the rest of the home.
